Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 87
"The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Montecillo Vineyard is a very hard wine to taste today. Lean and compact, the Montecillo reflects a decision to pick early. That's a tough call, as the alternative was to lose the entire crop. Red fruit, iron, cedar and white pepper struggle to open in the glass. I look forward to tasting this in another few years' time. Today, the 2022 is vegetal and lacking in site character." -Antonio Galloni

"The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Montecillo Vineyard comes from own-rooted vines planted in 1964 at 1,700 feet in elevation, and grapes were harvested on August 30. Matured for 22 months in 15% new French oak, it has pure aromas of black cherry and currant, tobacco, green pepper, garrigue and graphite. The light-bodied palate is delicately styled with modest, 12% alcohol and crunchy, pleasantly herbal flavors. It’s framed by muscular, chalky tannins and vibrant acidity and has a long, refreshing finish. It should be long lived in the cellar." -Erin Brooks
