Marsannay is the village everybody drives straight through on the way to more famous names, and Les Longeroies is the lieu-dit that keeps making the case for a promotion. It is a stony slope at the top of the Cote de Nuits that gives Pinot Noir real spine and dark-cherry depth. Camille Giroud is the Beaune house known for an old-school, hands-off approach: patient elevage, no makeup, nothing rushed. 2009 was a generous, ripe vintage across Burgundy, and with well over a decade in bottle this one has traded its primary fruit for something more savory. Expect dried cherry, forest floor, a little sweet earth, and tannins that have long since softened. Give it air and drink it at the table.
