Chateau Deyrem Valentin is a family estate in Soussans, in the northern reaches of Margaux, where the Sorge family has farmed since 1928. It's one of those quiet overachievers that consistently punches above its appellation, vinified the old-fashioned way in cement vats and aged in a portion of new French oak. The 2017 is now a mature back-vintage Margaux, softened and resolved, showing the aromatic perfume and finely-grained structure the commune is famous for. A classic, fairly-priced Margaux drinking beautifully right now.

Antonio Galloni

90 points

"The 2017 Deyrem Valentin has come together nicely during élevage. It remains a bit light in body, and yet all the elements are very nicely balanced throughout. Crushed flowers, sweet red cherry fruit, mint, sweet tobacco and cedar add nuance throughout. There is a lot to like in this approachable, mid-weight Margaux."

Robert Parker

90 points

"Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Deyrem Valentin leaps from the glass with notes of Morello cherries, black raspberries and fresh blackcurrants plus touches of bay leaves, truffles and tapenade. Medium-bodied, the palate is packed with loads of red and black fruit flavors plus plenty of earthy accents and a plush texture, finishing with great freshness." —Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Decanter

"Bright red fruits on the nose with hints of florality. I love the chewiness here and the creamy cherry/strawberry fruit with plums too, just fills the mouth with plush red and black fruit - really satisfying. There are some dry tannins and wood spice elements that come in though so give this some more time, but it has all the elements. Lovely."
