Bordeaux's rarest white wine, now in magnum format—a wine that rewards patience. The 2011 vintage was uneven for reds but excellent for whites, and Haut-Brion's blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc handled it with grace. Made in new oak barrels and aged on lees for 13 months, it's built for the long haul. Right now, it's showing structure and minerality; over the next 10-15 years, it will develop the extraordinary complexity this estate is known for. The deep gravel soils of Pessac give it a distinctive mineral stamp. This is a white wine that grows in the bottle. Decant if drinking soon; better yet, wait.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 93
"Bright straw-yellow. Captivating nose combines ripe pear, white peach, gooseberry and ripe citrus scents. Enters the mouth very rich and creamy, with surprisingly dense flavors of tropical fruit, ripe citrus and peach. Finishes brooding, tannic and long, with a noticeable saline tang. This will need plenty of time to show all it's got. A very thick, rich style of Haut-Brion Blanc that is also softer and creamier than many past vintages. In fact, it almost tasted like it had undergone at least partial malolactic fermentation, which Masclef denied. He feels that the tannic finish is due to the small, thick-skinned berries." -Ian D'Agata

"A blend of 42.1% Sauvignon and 57.9% Semillon, the Haut Brion Blanc has a slightly deeper colour than the La Mission Blanc. It displays great minerality on the nose, with precision and clarity, notes of green apple, lime flower, zest and white peach. The palate is medium-bodied with great precision on the entry, lovely poise, very elegant with a beautiful, delicate white peach and mineral finish with hints of guava and lychee in the background. Superb." -Neal Martin

"Features a chiseled feel for now, with a blanched almond edge and a vibrant quinine note taking the lead over salted butter, floral, verbena and gooseberry notes. There's terrific depth and length, but a youthful rawness that needs to settle in."
