Chateau Pradeaux has been making Bandol the hard way since 1752, and it has never once apologized for it. The Portalis family farms organically, ferments with the stems, macerates for weeks and then leaves the wine in ancient foudres for years, producing Mourvedre-dominant Bandol that is genuinely difficult in its youth and genuinely great once it isn't. Longue Garde is the cuvee built for precisely that wait, and this 2001 has had a quarter century to arrive. What was once iron and tannin has resolved into leather, dried herbs, black olive, game and dark fruit turned savory, all lifted by the salt-and-garrigue character only Bandol gives. It's fully open now but in no hurry whatsoever. Decant it, and put something braised on the table.
