The famous Bordeaux overachiever, from one of the modern era's greatest vintages. Sociando-Mallet sits in Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne on a gravel rise in the Haut-Medoc, and its late owner Jean Gautreau pointedly refused to enter it for any classification, convinced his wine deserved better than the labels on offer. The Cabernet Sauvignon-led blend is famously structured and built to age like a classified growth. The 2000 vintage was a hyped, near-perfect year, and this has had two-plus decades to soften into its prime. Decant and enjoy a wine that punches well above its station.

More about Chateau Sociando Mallet

Sociando-Mallet is an unclassified estate which easily performs at a "cru classé" level, and even over certain 2nd and 3rd growth wines. If you dig the firm, gravelly style of left-bank Cabernet Sauvignon, you'll hard pressed to find a better value.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Grilled ribeye, roast lamb, beef bourguignon, or aged cheeses. A hearty, savory dinner is the right call.

Tasting Profile

Full-bodied and firmly structured, with mature cassis, graphite, cedar and earth. The 2000 tannins have mellowed; the finish stays long and savory.
