Old-school Cornas from a beloved traditionalist who works tiny quantities in a cellar under his own house. Marcel Juge makes 100% Syrah from steep granite slopes, ferments whole-cluster under a submerged cap, ages in crusty old demi-muids and bottles unfiltered, just as it was done generations ago. The 2012 brought pronounced tannins and good acidity, a structured vintage built to outlive the friendlier 2011. Expect a firmer, more savory Juge that rewards patience or a serious decant. Pour it with something rich.

More about Marcel Juge

Marcel Juge was an icon of Cornas, making small quantities of beautifully expressive Syrah in a little cellar beneath his home. His wines were gentler and more perfumed than Cornas's brawny reputation suggests, yet built to age for decades. The 2015 is believed to be among his final releases, and he passed away in 2019. Any bottle that surfaces now is a rare taste of old Cornas.
