This distinctive cuvée blends parcels from multiple compelling sites: one above Gamay hamlet, another between Saint-Aubin and Chassagne-Montrachet, featuring vines aged 40-60 years on clay-limestone with southwest and southeast exposures. Spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel with 1-2 day cold soak precedes 15-18 months aging in barrel with minimal new oak—Prudhon's signature restraint. The result combines crisp red fruit with animal-leather characteristics, concentrated with juicy cherry finish, embodying the finesse and complexity the domaine champions.

More about Henri Prudhon

Saint-Aubin hides just behind Puligny and Chassagne, sharing their hillsides while flying under the radar. Henri Prudhon, born there in 1921, founded this domaine in 1945 when he and his wife Marguerite combined their vines. In the early 1980s their son Gérard began bottling instead of selling to négociants, and Neal Rosenthal has imported every vintage since 1983. Gérard's sons Vincent and Philippe now farm 14.5 hectares with minimal intervention, barrel-fermenting the whites slowly in cool cellars. Pure, classic and remarkably priced.

Flatiron's Take

From the Importer

This wine is produced from two separate parcels: one on a hillside above the hamlet of Gamay and the other from a parcel between Saint Aubin and Chassagne Montrachet. The average age of the vines is 50 years. A classic wine of this sector with compelling notes of animal and wild berries. The élevage is about 18 months before bottling; again, very little new oak is used.
