Chambertin Clos de Bèze is one of Burgundy's greatest Grand Crus—a vineyard with roots to seventh-century monks and a tradition of producing transcendent Pinot Noir. Bruno Clair's 2011 expresses this heritage through restraint and focus: red cherries, crushed strawberry, and subtle bergamot, with a palate of medium-bodied succulence and ripe, well-judged tannins. Acidity acts as a spine, keeping the wine tense and poised, while the finish unfolds with wonderful grace and refinement. Classical Burgundy at its most natural.

"An overtly, even exuberantly spicy nose is comprised by notes of red and dark berries that display plenty of floral nuances along with just a hint of secondary character. The succulent, round and relatively generous medium-bodied flavors conclude in a lightly stony and solidly complex finish that leans out as it sits on the palate. I very much like the delivery even if the austerity and slightly edgy finish would benefit from being served with the right foods. I would add that this is in a somewhat awkward stage as it seems as though it needs more time to perhaps flesh out though there is no guarantee that it won't run out of fruit first. I would opt for allowing it a few more years first but note that this is a small gamble."

"The 2011 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has a perfumed bouquet with rose petal and bergamot tea scents complementing the red berry fruit, the oak neatly integrated. The palate is supple and lithe with a seam of orange rind infusing the redcurrant and cranberry fruit, a little salinité and black truffle towards the grainy-textured finish. This is a very assured and noble Clos-de-Bèze from the Domaine. Tasted at Flint Wines Burgundy 2011 tasting." -Neal Martin

"Pale to mid garnet. Sweet and charming on the nose. Very juicy fruit. Maybe just very slightly simple but clean, pure and honest. If the price is right, go for it! Very straightforward and no messing about in the cellar."

"A fine-tuned Clos de Bèze, Bruno Clair’s 2011 opens up with a bright medium ruby colour and a youthful nose of sweet red cherries, plums and earth, which lead to gently evolved flavours of grilled meat and mushrooms. Quite delicate, refined and taut in style, but with marked underlying power and a chiselled limestone-driven core. This discreet wine should evolve nicely, though still keep its more linear feel. Lovely purity."

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
