Paul Filliatreau didn't just make wine in Saumur-Champigny—his work with old-vine Cabernet Franc effectively put the appellation on the map, helping turn this corner of the Loire into one of the world's reference points for the grape. This Vieilles Vignes comes from the family's oldest parcels around Chaintres and the surrounding clay-limestone communes southeast of Saumur, with some vines pushing 50 to 100 years old. It's 100% Cabernet Franc, fully destemmed and macerated in tank to keep the fruit clean and the structure firm. The 2010 has serious age on it now, so it's drinking in that mature, savory window where Loire Cab Franc gets really interesting. Decant it and give it some air.
