Barolo Ravera 2018 from Elvio Cogno comes from a prized, southeast-facing parcel in Novello’s Ravera cru, one of Barolo’s rising stars. At elevations reaching 400 meters and planted on white marl and limestone, Ravera consistently yields structured, aromatic Nebbiolo that ages beautifully but shows a graceful, floral character even young.

The 2018 vintage offers classic rose petal, sour cherry, orange peel, and tobacco, with hints of iron, herbs, and spice on the finish. The tannins are firm but fine, and the acidity keeps everything fresh and focused. Fermented traditionally and aged in large Slavonian oak casks, the wine is pure, transparent, and deeply rooted in place.

Pair with truffle risotto, roasted lamb, or mushroom dishes, or cellar it for 10–20 years to watch it unfold. Among the top expressions of Ravera, this bottling balances structure and soul.

We have been excited about Cogno's wines for many years. With the most recent of vintages, Elvio Cogno has reached the pinnacle of greatness. The domaine can now join a small handful of producers in Barolo that we can truly call elite.

This was inevitable. Cogno was founded by Elvio Cogno in 1990 after he left Marcarini, where he earned a reputation as one of the greatest wine-makers in Piedmont. Since then, he (together with his daughter Nadia and her husband, Valter Fissore) has been making very traditional-style Barolos in the village of Novello, and especially its top Cru, Ravera.
