Eric Rodez, Champagne Blanc de Blancs (Base 2021), NV

A grower Champagne from one of Ambonnay's quiet masters. Eric Rodez trained at Krug before taking over his family estate, and he farms his 6 hectares of Grand Cru vineyards organically and biodynamically across some three dozen tiny plots. This Blanc de Blancs is all Chardonnay grown in a village far better known for Pinot Noir, which is exactly what makes it interesting: it has the chalky cut of Chardonnay but the broad-shouldered weight of Ambonnay underneath. Built on a 2021 base with a deep library of reserve wines blended in, it drinks beautifully now and over the next several years.

More about Eric Rodez

The eighth generation of Champagne growers in Ambonnay, Eric Rodez trained at the legendary Krug house and brought that same precision to his family's biodynamic vineyard. Tasting Profile

Dry and chalky with citrus and toasted-bread depth. Fuller-bodied than most Blanc de Blancs thanks to its Ambonnay home. Crisp, layered, ready to drink.

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
