Famille Mousse, Champagne Eugene Longue Garde Blanc de Noirs Brut Nature, NV

$94.99
Use code 10OFF to get 10% off 12+ bottles

Longue Garde is the same blend as the standard Eugene, held on its lees for years rather than months and disgorged with zero dosage. That extra time is the whole argument: Meunier is supposed to be the early-drinking grape of Champagne, and Cedric Mousse keeps producing evidence to the contrary. The wine is 80% Meunier and 20% Pinot Noir from Cuisles, Jonquery and Chatillon-sur-Marne, half from the 2018 harvest and half from the perpetual reserve the family has been building since 2003, all fermented and aged in stainless steel with malolactic completed. With no sugar added at disgorgement, the texture has to come from the lees aging alone, and it does. Drink it now with food, or hold it another five years.

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
