There is never enough of this wine to go around as it is one of the most sought-after wines in all of Germany. Perfectly balanced, this is a wine on a precipice that leaves the drinker with a feeling of breathless intensity.

From the Rheingau's steepest and most storied vineyard site—Berg Schlossberg rises at extreme gradients—85 degrees!—above the Rhine. Its south-facing slopes of blue-grey Taunus quartzite and slate are held up by stone terraces, which soak up sunlight that other sites cannot match.

"The 2024 Riesling Rüdesheimer Berg Schlossberg was picked from parcels surrounding the ruin of Ehrenfels castle. A certain creamy gentleness adds white peach notes to stone and citrus on the nose. Its finesse, detail and subtlety are striking on the palate. This comes together seamlessly, with both firmness and tenderness. The bone-dry finish holds a gorgeous sense of citrus pith. It’s cooling, serene and long. (Bone-dry) 96pts"—Anne Krebiehl, MW, Vinous

WINE GUIDES

German Wines

Is there a better grape than Riesling? Is there a better value? Its fruit purity, its perfume, and its mineral nuance are all unparalleled. And for centuries, the top German Rieslings were priced accordingly: at least as expensive as the top red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy. But nowadays you could spend a lifetime exploring Germany’s great Riesling-producing regions while staying well within your budget. You might take an occasional break to try Germany’s other white grapes or perhaps a glass of Spätburgunder (the local name for Pinot Noir). It’s time to get started!
