Michel Couvreur, Whisky The Unique, NV

Michel Couvreur’s "The Unique" is a masterful expression of blended whisky that balances depth with elegance. Aged in sherry casks, this whisky offers a round, luxurious profile, where dried fruit, like raisins and figs, intertwines with honeyed sweetness and a subtle touch of spice.

On the nose, you’re greeted with aromas of dark fruit, baked apples, and a light nuttiness. On the palate, the whisky is full and velvety, with a soft mouthfeel that complements the richness of dried fruits, caramel, and hints of baking spice. A slight smokiness lingers on the finish, adding a perfect balance to the sweet, fruity layers.

Perfect for sipping neat, this whisky can be enjoyed after dinner, alongside chocolate desserts, or on its own as a contemplative pour. It’s a versatile dram, equally delightful for both casual enjoyment and more formal tasting occasions.

More about Michel Couvreur

Michel Couvreur, a Belgian who worked in wine, moved to Scotland in 1964 to learn whisky, then returned to Burgundy in 1978 to set up shop in Bouze-lès-Beaune. He sourced malt whisky from Scotland and matured it in old wine cellars, about 150 meters of damp tunnels with natural springs, favoring sherry casks, especially Pedro Ximénez, some of them over a century old. Couvreur died in 2013, and cellar master Jean-Arnaud Frantzen carries on. This is what happens when ambition refuses borders.
