More about Grand Marnier

Grand Marnier is the orange liqueur with Cognac in it, and that's what sets it apart from triple sec: a base of French brandy gives it more weight, warmth and depth.

It grew out of a distillery Jean-Baptiste Lapostolle founded in 1827 near Paris. Louis-Alexandre Marnier, who married into the family, spent years blending Cognac with bitter orange essence and launched the result in 1880. César Ritz, then running London's Savoy Hotel, is credited with suggesting the "Grand" in the name. Gruppo Campari has controlled the company since 2016, with the Marnier-Lapostolle family still involved.

Expect marmalade, vanilla and a little oak. It's the classic choice for a Cadillac margarita or a Sidecar, and good on its own over ice after dinner.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Essential in a Margarita, Sidecar or Cosmopolitan. Sip neat after dinner, flame it over crepes Suzette, or pour alongside duck a l'orange, chocolate mousse, or a wedge of orange-almond cake.

Tasting Profile

Candied orange peel and marmalade over vanilla and toasty oak. Medium-bodied and warming, sweet with a bitter-orange lift and real brandy depth, finishing long and softly spicy.
