Hubert Lignier’s 2023 Grand Chaliot proves that even a "simple" Bourgogne Rouge can have serious soul when it’s done right.

Sourced from a single parcel in the Côte de Nuits, this Pinot Noir offers bright red cherry, raspberry, and rose petal notes, layered with fine spice and a subtle, earthy core. It’s light on its feet but quietly structured underneath—showing the kind of balance, texture, and poise you usually only find in village-level wines (and beyond).

This is classic, no-makeup Burgundy—elegant, pure, and crafted with the same precision that defines Lignier’s more famous crus. Perfect for drinking young with a good decant, but it has the bones to evolve beautifully over the next few years.

Perfect for: roast chicken, mushroom dishes, charcuterie boards, or simply stocking your cellar with a Burgundy that punches way above its label.

What importer Rosenthal Wine Merchant has to say about this wine...

The Grand Chaliot vineyard is situated just south of Nuits-Saint-Georges, and the Ligniers work 1.25 hectares of 30-year-old vines there. Given its proximity to Nuits-Saint-Georges, this wine possesses a seriousness and complexity uncommon in a Bourgogne Rouge. As with the Passetoutgrain, this is raised in used barrels and bottled just prior to the following harvest.

Focus On: Burgundy

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
everything you need to know about Bourgogne is just a click away!
