Venerable estate producing classic examples of Ghemme. The Nebbiolo here is rich, even chewy, and filled with cherries. There is a touch of fennel. This is Alto Piemonte, but could easily be confused for Barolo. Approachable now -- if you like overt structure in your wine -- but this is a wine that will go the distance.

"The 2019 Ghemme is a powerful, resonant wine. All the breadth of the appellation comes through loud and clear. Macerated cherry, new leather, spice and licorice fill out the layers. There is a bit of new oak, but the wine has the frame to handle it. The straight Ghemme, a blend from Balsina, Santa Fè and Ronco al Maso, works so well. It is the most overt of the three Ghemmes in the range. The 2019 is especially fine." —Antonio Galloni
