What is this wine?
Lapo Berti’s Barolo del Comune di La Morra 2020 is a classically styled Nebbiolo from the rolling hills of La Morra, one of Barolo’s most elegant communes. Made with organically farmed fruit and minimal intervention, the wine is fermented spontaneously and aged in large neutral oak casks (botti). The result is a pure, site-driven Barolo that captures La Morra’s hallmark grace, lifted aromatics, and fine tannins.

Lapo Berti is part of a new generation of small Barolo producers emphasizing transparency and finesse over power. His Comune di La Morra bottling distills the essence of the village—perfumed, supple, and balanced—at a price that makes it one of the smartest buys in Barolo today. What does this wine taste like?
Aromas of red cherry, dried rose, and orange peel lead to a refined palate of plum, tea leaf, and subtle spice. The tannins are fine and chalky, the finish long and savory with mineral lift.

When should you drink this wine?
Approachable now with a decant, but best 2026–2034 as it gains depth and tertiary complexity. Pair with mushroom risotto, roast duck, or truffle pasta. Serve slightly below room temperature.

Tuscan-born Lapo Berti spent about two decades learning the trade, as cellar master at Enzo Boglietti, under Roberto Voerzio in La Morra, and in Burgundy with Nicolas Potel, before settling in La Morra to make his own Barolo. He leases parcels in the Fossati and Le Coste crus, farms them strictly organically and makes wine with real restraint. Young label, serious approach, wines that taste like place.
