A young grower's bet on a classical Barolo cru. Lapo Berti planted his flag in La Morra in 2012, leasing parcels in three of the commune's most pedigreed MGAs - Fossati, Bricco Rocca, and Serradenari - and farming them himself. Fossati sits on the western side of La Morra, an east-facing site of sandy, iron-rich marl that has long been prized for its blend of finesse and weight. The 2021 vintage delivered a cool, classical growing season, the kind of year that rewards traditional handling with fragrance and tension. Berti's approach - organic farming, low yields, hands-off cellar work - lets the cru speak in its native dialect. This is Barolo for those who chase perfume over power.

Lapo spent 17 years in the wine business before moving to La Morra to make his own Barolo. He leases cru parcels in Fossati and Bricco Rocca, farming strictly organic and making wine with real restraint. Young producer, serious approach, wines that taste like place.

Perfect Pairings

Pair with brasato al Barolo, agnolotti del plin in butter and sage, roasted guinea hen, braised short ribs with porcini, or a board of aged Castelmagno, hazelnuts, and walnuts. Worth a few hours in the carafe before pouring.

Tasting Profile

Pale ruby. Roses, wild strawberry, sour cherry, dried herb, sweet anise, and a dusting of pipe tobacco and tar. Medium-bodied with chalky, fine-grained tannins, brisk acidity, and a long, savory, perfumed finish that keeps unfolding.
