Vide Bourse sits right at the foot of Bâtard-Montrachet, close enough that locals call the plot "Petit Bâtard," and it's among the most prized premier crus in Chassagne. Joseph Colin farms only a tiny parcel here, so this cuvée is worth grabbing when you see it. Joseph is Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey's younger brother. After Pierre-Yves left in 2003, he ran Domaine Marc Colin with his two younger siblings. In 2017 he took a little over six hectares of the family holdings, centred in and around Saint-Aubin, Puligny and Chassagne, and started his own domaine. In the cellar he's hands-off: he ferments with native yeast. The 2024 is 100% Chardonnay from sustainably farmed vines. If you want a taste of the Bâtard neighbourhood without paying Grand Cru prices, start here.

Burghound

92 points

"A beautifully layered nose combines notes of white flowers, passion fruit, citrus rind, pear and enough wood to merit mentioning. There is an appealingly sleek, intense and textured palate impression to the delicious medium-bodied flavors that evidence a bracing lemon zest-character on the balanced, bone-dry, compact and appealingly persistent finale. This has the stuffing to amply reward extended keeping."

More about Joseph Colin

Joseph Colin split from the family estate in 2017 and launched his own domaine with 6.5 hectares in Saint-Aubin and Chassagne-Montrachet. His whole-bunch pressing, native yeasts, and minimalist approach yield 21 different cuvées—a young hand redefining what Côte de Beaune can be.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Sole meunière, lobster risotto, roast turbot with beurre blanc, chicken with morels and cream, aged Comté.

Tasting Profile

Expect the classic Chassagne-Montrachet premier cru profile: ripe orchard fruit, lemon and white flowers with a hint of hazelnut and a chalky, stony edge. Typically medium- to full-bodied and textured, with some of the richness its Bâtard-Montrachet neighbour is known for, kept in check by fresh acidity and a long, mineral, dry finish.
