Kistler is one of California's most revered Chardonnay houses, modeling its wines on great white Burgundy, and the Sonoma Mountain bottling comes from one of its most distinctive sites. The original Kistler planting sits just shy of 1,800 feet on the western edge of the Mayacamas, where forty-year-old dry-farmed vines grow in a rare mix of deep red volcanic and fine chalky soils. That high-elevation terroir gives a Chardonnay with both richness and real cut, ripe orchard fruit framed by vibrant acidity and subtle, well-judged oak. It's the kind of bottle that rewards a little patience but drinks beautifully now with a decant. Serious, age-worthy California Chardonnay from a benchmark producer.
