A still, dry white made from Macabeo — the grape better known for Cava and white Rioja — by the Ledogar brothers, biodynamic standard-bearers in a remote corner of Corbieres. They farm old vines with horses, no herbicides or pesticides, and bottle unfined and unfiltered, so even this easygoing cuvee comes out vivid and alive. Le Petit Melancolie is the relaxed end of the range: a fresh, textural southern white with real character for the price. Serve well-chilled.

More about Ledogar

Brothers Xavier and Mathieu Ledogar farm 22 hectares around Ferrals-les-Corbières, in the Boutenac corner of the Corbières. Xavier took over the family vines in 1997 and Mathieu joined in 2004. Farming is biodynamic, with horses doing the ploughing and donkeys keeping the weeds down, and much of the Carignan and Grenache is 60 to 120 years old. La Mariole comes from Carignan planted in 1901: fruity, spicy and wild, with tannins that don't overwhelm.
