A mature Margaux from a small, off-the-radar estate. Clos Margalaine is the second wine of Chateau Marojallia, the tiny garagiste-style Margaux property launched in 1998 by Philippe Porcheron with the team of Muriel Andraud and Jean-Luc Thunevin. Sourced from deep-gravel terroir in the commune of Arsac, it was conceived as a more approachable expression of the Marojallia house style. The 2000 vintage, one of Bordeaux's all-time great years, has had a full quarter century to integrate. At twenty-five, expect tertiary aromas of cigar box, leather and forest floor over softened cassis, fully resolved tannins, and the kind of svelte texture only time delivers.

Perfect Pairings

Mature claret asks for classics. Rack of lamb with rosemary, beef bourguignon, roast duck breast or aged Comte. The wine's softened tannins and savory tertiary notes also flatter mushroom-rich dishes like wild-mushroom tart or truffle risotto.

Tasting Profile

Medium-bodied and softly knit. Cassis and red plum have moved toward dried cherry, joined by cigar box, leather, cedar and forest floor. Tannins fully resolved, acidity intact, the finish gently savory. Drinking at peak.
