The everyday red from one of Cornas's great names. Emmanuelle Verset, sixth generation of the famous family, bottles this Syrah as Vin de France from younger plots on the plains around Cornas, giving you the house's savory Northern Rhone signature without the cellar wait or the Cornas price. She farms organically and works whole-cluster with no new oak, so the wine stays bright, peppery, and true to place. Pour it young and slightly cool. An easy weeknight introduction to a serious domaine.

More about A&E Verset

Emmanuelle Verset came home to Cornas to take the reins from her father, Alain, carrying on a name that still makes wine people whisper. Her great-uncle was the legendary Noël Verset, whose Champelrose parcels came to her, and from her grandfather Louis she inherited vines in Geynale and Les Mazards. She has converted the farming to organics and makes Cornas that tastes like it is made of stone and time and pure intention.

Flatiron's Take

From the Importer

What Polaner Selections has to say about this wine:

Vineyard

Vines located in the lieu-dit of "Revirand" on the plains of Saint Peray on the Right Bank of the Rhone River. Historically these lands produced apricots, but Verset planted this vineyard in 2020.

Soil

Dominated by galets roulets or "rolled pebbles"

Viticulture

Practicing organic with emphasis on biodiversity. Wildflowers and assorted vegetation such as clover and grains are sowed between vine rows and then roller crimped to decompose and add nutrients back to the soil. The grapes are harvested manually.

Vinification

Whole cluster fermentation lasting 2 weeks with manual punching down (in the morning) and pumping over (in the evening).

Aging

Aged 50% in barrels and 50% in vats for 6 months in 400L and 600L oak barrels from several French cooperages of. The barrels are 4 to 6 years old.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Roast chicken, sausages with lentils, burgers, grilled vegetables, charcuterie boards.

Tasting Profile

Juicy and bright with blackberry, plum, and a peppery, herbal edge. Medium-bodied, soft tannins, fresh acidity. Easygoing and savory through the finish.
