L'instinct captures what makes northern Rhône Syrah so compelling: the electric tension between dark fruit and mineral drive that granite soils impart. Domaine Jolivet farms steep terraced vineyards in Saint-Joseph, where whole-cluster fermentation and judicious oak let the Syrah speak for itself. The 2022 shows blackberry, cracked pepper, and violet aromatics with a smoky, saline finish—classic northern Rhône character. This drinks beautifully now but will evolve gracefully over the next 5-7 years. Serve slightly cool with grilled meats or rich vegetable dishes.

Pascal Jolivet founded his house in 1987 and built it into one of the Loire's big names, with more than 120 hectares across Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé on limestone, clay and flint, plus vineyards in Touraine. Native yeasts, gravity handling, long lees aging and low sulfur keep the wines crisp and mineral. These are wines that cut through fat and make you want another glass.
