Lambrusco feels like a secret weapon in beating summer's heat while still enjoying a fully fleshed-out red wine. Paltrinieri specializes in the pale Sorbara grape, but Solco is 100% Lambrsuco Salamino, a darker-hued and intensely berry-forward version of the grape.

It's a fully dry version, with flavors of black cherry and fennel, and plenty of fresh acidity. A perfect wine for pizza.

"The 2024 Lambrusco dell'Emilia Solco displays a deep purple-ruby hue. It opens with a bouquet of sweet cream, raspberry and spice. This is wickedly fresh and perfumed with tantalizing acidity and tart wild berry fruit notes. Long and intense, the 2024 closes with violet and lavender inner florals." —Eric Guido

More about Paltrinieri

Cantina Paltrinieri is the benchmark for Lambrusco di Sorbara, period. Alberto Paltrinieri took over in 1989 and lifted his family's 17 hectares to the very top of the artisanal Lambrusco world. He created the first mono-varietal Sorbara Lambrusco—eight different bottlings now, all but one from 100% Lambrusco di Sorbara. Only 20,000 bottles total from vineyards nestled between the Secchia and Panaro rivers. These are dry, complex, food-driven wines that make you rethink what Lambrusco can be.

Flatiron's Take

From the Importer

What Polaner Selections has to say about this wine:

VarietalsLambrusco SalaminoVineyardSourced from 15 hectares of vines at the cru of ‘Cristo’ di Sorbara. Sorbara is the most suitable area for the production of this vine as it is the narrowest strip of land between the two rivers Secchia and Panaro that run through the province of Modena.OrientationVarying expositions.SoilLoose soil rich in organic material.ViticultureHand-harvested. Regarding farming practices, the winery says, "I would call it sustainable. In good years they are organic and just using a little copper sulf. in accordance with the organic ruling in Europe. However, for really difficult vintages they may have to fall back on some higher QTYs of copper sulf. ...In the last 10 years they only had 2 vintages that were challenging in this way."VinificationMacerated in contact with the skins for two days. Alcoholic fermentation and refermentation using the Martinotti (aka Charmat) method.AgingAged briefly in the bottle before its release.
