Robert Parker

90 points

"The latest release of Ployez-Jacquemart's emblematic NV Extra Quality Brut was disgorged with around five grams per liter dosage after three years on the lees. Mingling aromas of orange oil and fresh peach with hints of brioche and smoke, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with a tightly wound core, racy acids and a dry, chalky finish. It will show even better after an additional year or two on cork." —Robert Parker

Wine Spectator

"A lovely hint of honeysuckle accents the flavors of mirabelle plum, white cherry, anise and grated ginger in this vibrant Champagne, which is finely knit and detailed in texture, with a mouthwatering finish of ripe fruit, spice and chalk accents."

More about Ployez Jacquemart

Third-generation Champagne house in Ludes founded by Marcel and Yvonne in 1930. Laurence Ployez now leads the estate with hand-harvested grapes from organic or HVE-certified vineyards. She's fanatical about vintage character—minimal reserve wine—so every non-vintage tastes like a snapshot of that year.

Flatiron's Take

From the Importer

What Bowler Wine has to say about this wine:

60% Pinot Meunier, 15% Pinot Noir, and 25% Chardonnay exclusively from Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards. The Meunier and Pinot Noir mostly come from Mailly and Ludes and the Chardonnay comes from vineyards in the Montagne de Reims and the Cote des Blancs. Aged for a minimum of five years before disgorgement.

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
