Pol Roger has been a favorite Champagne in the US ever since Winston Churchill had an imperial pint every day at lunch.  He said it was just the right size. Not as big as a full bottle but one glass more than a half bottle.  Just right. The reputation is deserved. It is one of the few great houses still entirely family run. They are only a tenth the size of the really big houses, and focus their budgets on making high quality wines every year, rather than on marketing. The house style focuses on elegance and drinkability.

Robert Parker

91 points

"Offering up aromas of pear, peach and freshly baked bread, the new release of Pol Roger's NV Brut Reserve is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and charming, with a generous core of fruit, lively acids and a saline finish, complemented by an elegant pinpoint mousse. It's a demonstrative, expressive Brut Reserve that will pick up additional complexity with more age on cork." —William Kelley

Decanter

92 points

"One of the great signatures of the region, its calligraphy flowing with elegance, panache and balance, the last reflected in the equal proportions of the three great varieties of Champagne. A flamboyant straw gold lustre, and an immediately seductive nose, encyclopaedic in its indulgence. Nougat, praline, white pepper, spice and nectarine were first to the page for this taster, but there is much more behind that, the sugar discrete yet edifying, the long yeast ageing responsible for a happy and altogether luminous marriage of power and finesse. Consistently excellent."

Wine Spectator

90 points

"A graceful Champagne, round and creamy, with a fresh frame of citrusy acidity enlivening the delicate flavors of ripe Gala apple, candied ginger and toast point." —Alison Napjus

Wine Enthusiast

90 points

"The cuvée from this producer sums up everything about its Champagnes. It is rich wine, full of Pinot Noir giving structure as well as generous fruitiness. With its texture balanced by the wine's fresher acidity, the Champagne is poised and ready to drink." —Roger Voss

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
