Chambolle-Musigny is Burgundy's village for perfume — Pinot Noir here tends toward delicacy and floral aromatic precision rather than the muscle of Gevrey or the richness of Vosne. Hudelot-Baillet is a small family estate with holdings in some of Chambolle's best parcels; Dominique Le Guen runs the domaine today, joined by his son Tanguy, with the same careful approach the family has maintained for generations. The Vieilles Vignes designation signals older-vine fruit from across their Chambolle holdings — deeper concentration, more complex expression, a step above the standard village bottling. The 2023 vintage was excellent in Burgundy: ripe, clean, and showing the kind of floral precision that makes Chambolle so special.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes, from vines between 60 and 70 years old, has a beautifully defined bouquet with cranberry and wild strawberry fruit scents, sous-bois and neatly integrated 25% new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, sweet black cherries and crushed strawberry scents and a dab of candied orange peel toward the finish. This will be very seductive." —Neal Martin

More about Hudelot-Baillet

Joël Hudelot and Chantal Baillet founded this Chambolle-Musigny domaine in 1981, and their son-in-law Dominique Le Guen, who joined in 1998, has run it since 2004. Eight and a half hectares, nearly all Pinot Noir, farmed with minimal treatments, no herbicides and regular ploughing. In the cellar: full destemming, a cool pre-fermentation maceration, gentle extraction, and new oak calibrated to the level of the cru. Fragrant, finely built Chambolle at prices that still make sense.
