From a historic, highly prized cru in Neive, positioned in the initial section of the renowned Gallina plot near the famous Santo Stefano parcel. Calcareous clay soils with notable sand impart distinctive finesse. Fewer than 7,000 bottles produced per vintage. Fermentation in wooden vats with indigenous yeasts, 60-70 day submerged cap maceration (an ancient technique), then approximately five years aging in neutral oak and concrete. The exceptional 2020 shows graceful profile with sweet tannins, succulence, and transparent juiciness described as "Pinot-like purity." Magnum format provides optimal slow aging conditions.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 94
"The 2020 Barbaresco Albesani presents an elegant, restrained expression of Albesani. Dried cherry, crushed flowers, cedar, mint and pipe tobacco open with a bit of coaxing. This ethereal, haunting Barbaresco has to much to offer. It will be interesting to see if it gains weight with time in bottle. Today, it is very much on the delicate, aromatic side of things." -Antonio Galloni

Wine Spectator

WS 94
"Broad and open, this red evokes plum, cherry, earth and eucalyptus flavors focused by vibrant acidity. Supple in texture, with firm yet well-integrated tannins informing the long, complex finish."

Kerin O'Keefe

WE 97
"Violet, perfumed berry, camphor and sun-warmed hay are just some of the aromas you'll find on the impressive 2020 Barbaresco Albesani from Roagna. Delicious and elegantly structured, the palate delivers succulent raspberry, ripe Marasca cherry, cake spice and blood orange before a star anise finish. Smooth tannins give it a velvety texture. A gorgeous wine. Drink through 2038." -Kerin O'Keefe
