Le Chêne Marchand is one of Sancerre's most famous lieux-dits — a south-facing limestone amphitheater above the village of Bué, also bottled by names like Crochet. Thierry Merlin-Cherrier, working alongside his wife Sophie, is a fourth-generation Bué grower who made his first vintage in 1982 and has been quietly putting out some of the most precise, terroir-honest Sancerres in the village ever since. This is his top single-vineyard cuvée, and the Chêne Marchand parcel — pure caillottes limestone — delivers the cut, salinity, and verticality the lieu-dit is famous for. Expect Sauvignon Blanc at its most chiseled: flinty, citric, mineral, with serious structural backbone underneath the aromatic lift.
