Single-vineyard Napa Cab Franc from vines planted in 1978. Big Ranch in the Oak Knoll District is home to some of the oldest Cabernet Franc vines in Napa Valley, originally planted in 1978 and still tended by the McKenzie-Mueller family that put them in the ground. T. Berkley — Taylor Berkley Boydstun's tightly focused Loire-inspired label — gets a small allocation and treats it with a deliberate hand: native-yeast fermentation, élevage split across amphora, concrete egg, stainless steel and French oak to keep the site, not the cellar, in front. The result captures what old Cab Franc vines on a cooler Napa bench can do — savory and structured, with leafy lift, real density, and the kind of stretch that rewards cellaring.
