Vino Nobile di Montepulciano has recently enjoyed a revival. The whole DOC has rediscovered itself and its very high potential; elegant examples of Sangiovese are now being produced by dozens of producers. Le Berne is one — expect typical flavors of red and sour cherry, fresh-cut herbs, fennel, and strawberry, and a sleek, juicy structure. Fine tannins and a hint of minerality round everything up for an elegant, eminently drinkable bottle.

More about Le Berne

Le Berne is the Natalini family's estate in Cervognano, on the eastern side of Montepulciano; the name comes from the Etruscan for "the hill." The family sold its wine to other houses until 1997, when they bottled their first Vino Nobile under their own label. Today grandson Federico Fastelli makes the wine with his uncle Andrea from 14 hectares, all Sangiovese since 2010, farmed without synthetics. Fermentations are spontaneous, in steel or cement, with aging in big botti. Bright, energetic, elegant Vino Nobile.
