One of the Loire's most serious red wines, from a Sancerre estate far better known for its whites. Belle Dame is Domaine Vacheron's flagship Pinot Noir, grown biodynamically on a single flinty (silex) parcel and aged in oak to give it real structure and depth. The Vacheron family farms the whole estate biodynamically and treats this red with grand-cru seriousness. At a decade old, the 2015 — a ripe, generous vintage — is drinking beautifully now, with the fruit softening into savory, earthy maturity. A red Sancerre to convert any skeptic.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2015 Sancerre Belle Dame exhibits a ruby-garnet color along with an open, fruity and pretty matured nose with sweet toast, fruit, caramel and floral aromas as well as the delicate flinty background representing the terroir of flint-stoney soils. It is silky, finessed, warm and intense on the palate but always delicate and with fine tannins and a persistent structure. This is a ripe yet still vital, if not young Pinot that was possibly underrated in the beginning but now reveals its true class. The terroir is coolish, the vintage, however, is a warm one. This Belle Dame brings both together quite perfectly. The 2015 drinks perfectly today and will continue to do so over the next 5 years. Tasted in February 2021." —Stephan Reinhardt

"Produced with low yields from a small plot of just over 1.5ha on silex soils, this wine is aged in barrels already used for just one vintage at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. It has attractive aromas of cherry pit with a hint of spicy smokiness. A delicate, silky mouthfeel is sustained by lacy tannins, leaving an overall impression of minty, mineral freshness."

"This mature wine continues this producer's reputation for great red Sancerre. The tannins, now fully integrated, gracefully support rich cherry fruits, layers of wood aging and beautifully juicy acidity." —Roger Voss
