Some of the most storied vine rows in Cornas, in the hands of the family that made them famous. Emmanuelle Verset farms parcels tied to Noël Verset's legacy, including the legendary Champelrose that her father Alain took over, and carries the family's obsessive dedication to precise winemaking. Noël, the genius Cornas producer whose bottles now fetch a fortune at auction, stopped making wine in 2006; this is the through-line, carried into the next generation. Verset farms top sites with older vines in the granite hills of Cornas, working with respect for terroir and a love of tradition, and this bottling blends her lieux-dits across the hill — Champelrose, Reynard, Les Mazards, La Côte and Les Côtes. It is 100% Syrah from the Northern Rhône's most uncompromising appellation. 2021 was cool and troubled in the Northern Rhône — frost, hail, rain — and the wines that came through are old-school in the best sense: lighter, fresher, lower in alcohol, all pepper and lift. Ready earlier than a warm year, but with the acidity to hold.
