The Pernot family's mastery of Puligny-Montrachet finds perhaps its most compelling expression in Les Chalumaux, a Premier Cru vineyard that showcases the mineral precision for which this corner of the Côte de Beaune is revered. This 2023 bottling represents Alvina Pernot's commitment to capturing the distinctive character of individual vineyard sites, where mineral notes emerge naturally from the limestone-rich soils.

Les Chalumaux occupies a favorable position within Puligny-Montrachet's Premier Cru hierarchy, producing wines that balance the appellation's characteristic elegance with a mineral backbone. The Pernot family, with their understanding of these terroirs, crafts this cuvée to reflect the vineyard's character rather than impose a house style.

In Alvina Pernot's portfolio, this Premier Cru represents the family's dedication to site-specific winemaking, where each vineyard's geological fingerprint shapes the wine's character. The 2023 vintage captures the essence of what makes Puligny-Montrachet essential to any serious Burgundy collection—the marriage of power and finesse that these slopes can deliver.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 90
"The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet Chalumaux 1er Cru is a cuvée coming from the Pernot family. This has a very enticing bouquet with crushed stone, flint and light oyster shell scents that could only come from Puligny. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. The oak comes through a little more here (two new out of six barrels), so give it time to fully integrate." -Neal Martin
