Antonio Galloni

"The 2023 Bourgogne d’Or comes half from Mâcon-Lugny and half from Auxerrois. It has a simple, bright sunny bouquet with melon and grapefruit scents. The palate is fresh and taut, lightly waxed in texture with a brisk finish. Fine." —Neal Martin

Robert Parker

86 points

"As usual, Samuel Billaud's 2023 Bourgogne d'Or Chardonnay is a blend of purchased musts from Mâconnais and Auxerrois and was aged on the lees in the tank for 12 months. Offering aromas of beeswax, pear and honeysuckle, it’s medium-bodied, broad and charming but lacks the incisive spine of acidity found in his Chablis bottlings." —Kristaps Karklins

More about Samuel Billaud

Samuel Billaud made wine for over 20 vintages at his family's Domaine Billaud-Simon before branching out in 2009 with his own vision. When the family domaine sold in 2014, he secured several prime vineyard parcels in Les Clos, Vaudésir, Blanchot, and other Premier Cru sites—15 hectares total. Hand-harvest for top cuvées, measured oak use (10–20% new), stainless steel aging for village wines. This is a modernist approach to classical Chablis—mineral, precise, terroir-driven.
