A village Puligny from one of white Burgundy's most exciting young domaines, made by a name to know before everyone else does. Alvina Pernot -- granddaughter of Paul Pernot, whose family is among Puligny's largest landowners -- struck out on her own in 2018 with her husband Philippe Abadie, building a new winery in 2021. Clos des Noyers Brets is a lieu-dit that sits right beside the couple's home on the upper side of the village, on Puligny's classic limestone and marl. Barrel-raised in the traditional Puligny idiom, it's precise, energetic, and a genuine expression of a rising talent working at small scale. Worth watching.

"The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Clos des Noyers Brets has quite a complex bouquet like the 2020 last year. Apple blossom commingles with Nashi pear, hints of oyster shell and a distant tang of sea spray. The palate is well balanced with more depth than the Epée, a crisp bead of acidity with added spiciness towards the persistent finish. Superb." —Neal Martin
