A village Chambolle that works like a map of the whole commune: Amiot-Servelle blends eight separate parcels, from Les Bas-Doix and Les Danguerrins to Les Argillières and Les Drazeys, into one wine. In Chambolle that matters more than most places, because the soil changes almost from plot to plot. The combe, the dry valley behind the village, has spread scree and deposits down the slope, and the Bajocian limestone dips right at the village, pushing neighbouring parcels even further apart. The family picks each parcel when it's ripe and only blends the lots once the wine is off the skins, so every site gets its say first. This is a family domaine based in Chambolle itself, farmed organically and now run by Prune and Antoine Amiot, who took over from their parents with the 2020 vintage. If you want to know what Chambolle actually tastes like before moving up the ladder, this is an honest place to start.

"The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Village includes 15% whole bunch this year. This has a light and slightly subdued bouquet at the moment, perhaps just a bit closed on the day. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe and pliant tannins. Just a dab of white pepper builds through the finish. This is an open and fleshy Chambolle Village to savor in its youth." —Neal Martin

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Petit salé (salt pork) with lentils; venison fillet with cranberries; girolle mushrooms sautéed or in a cream sauce with roast chicken; jugged hare; chicken-liver terrine or liver quenelles; fruity, gentle cheeses such as Reblochon or Cîteaux. Serve at 15-17°C.

Tasting Profile

Expect the classic Chambolle-Musigny profile: red cherry, raspberry and violet aromas, with a light-to-medium body and fine, silky tannins. Bright acidity keeps it fresh and lifted, and the finish is typically long, dry and distinctly mineral. Think of the most perfumed, delicate side of red Burgundy, more about elegance than power.

What a pleasant surprise

Wow so so clear, rarely remember seeing a clearer Pinot noir. The nose is incredible: all provenances from a horse stable: the smell of manure, hoof, well used saddles. Don’t laugh. It is ultra nice. This is a wine with massive character. On the palate a 4 star. Nothing wowish. But for the price, well enjoyable. Dried cherry, lots of resin and balsam. Will be buying this bad boy again
