The Boissons are best known as Meursault white specialists, but they've been branching into reds, and this Hautes-Cotes de Beaune is everyday red Burgundy done right. Pinot Noir from the cooler, higher hills behind the Cote de Beaune, organically farmed and made in the family's gentle, subtle style with restrained oak. It's the kind of fresh, ethereal Pinot that delivers the Burgundy thrill without the cellar wait or the price climb. The 2023 is bright, friendly and ready to drink.

More about Anne Boisson

The Boisson family has been making Meursault for more than two centuries. Earlier vintages appeared under the Boisson-Vadot name made by Bernard Boisson; today his children Pierre and Anne work the roughly 10-hectare estate together, releasing wines under their own names. Pierre famously compares notes with his old school friend Raphael Coche. There's no secret formula: good farming, indigenous yeasts, sparing new oak and a long élevage of nearly two years in barrel. The result is clean, precise and beautifully transparent white Burgundy.
