This is Anne-Sophie Dubois' top Fleurie under its original name, and a back-vintage bottle that shows what her most serious Gamay can become with some years in the cellar. Before the 2017 vintage, when she renamed the cuvée Les Labourons after its lieu-dit, Clepsydre was her selection of the oldest fruit. Dubois was born and raised in Champagne and learned to make wine in Burgundy, which is unusual for a Beaujolais grower. Until 2015, every one of her Fleuries was fully destemmed and fermented Burgundy-style. All her Fleurie plots sit in Les Labourons, a natural amphitheater of 18 parcels at 380 meters, with shallow sandy soils over pink granite bedrock. Her oldest vines there are more than 60 years old. If you think of Fleurie as a light, pretty glass, a mature bottle from this Burgundy-trained grower makes a strong case for taking cru Beaujolais seriously.

More about Anne-Sophie Dubois

Anne-Sophie Dubois moved from Champagne to Fleurie and quickly established herself as one of the region's most thoughtful vignerons. Since 2015 she's been making Les Cocottes with 100% whole-cluster carbonic maceration, bottled in spring for early drinking, but with an Anne-Sophie Dubois level of aromatic nuance and mineral backbone underneath. This is bright, juicy Beaujolais that doesn't compromise on complexity. After years away from the market, Les Cocottes is back, and it's everything you remember.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Coq au vin, roast chicken with morels or chanterelles, duck breast with a cherry sauce, pork rillettes and saucisson, or a wedge of aged Comté.

Tasting Profile

Expect the classic Fleurie profile of red cherry, raspberry and violet, with extra depth from old vines on granite. Typically medium-bodied with fine tannins, fresh acidity and a savoury, mineral finish, and it picks up earthy, forest-floor notes with time in the cellar. Think of a more structured Gamay that drinks closer to red Burgundy than to light, pretty Beaujolais.
