Mirella Buscemi is a trained chemist who inherited a love of vines from her grandparents and a remarkable old vineyard — the Tartaraci plot, given to her as a wedding gift by her husband, Etna winemaker Alberto Graci. Her tiny estate sits more than 3,000 feet up on Etna's wild northwestern face, in volcanic soils that have grown vines since the days of Admiral Nelson. This Etna Rosso is built on Nerello Mascalese, Etna's native red grape, farmed naturally and made with a minimal hand. Expect the volcano's signature: bright red fruit, smoky mineral depth and a delicate but persistent grip. A characterful, high-elevation Etna from a rising name.
