What is this wine?
Domaine Bachelet-Monnot, founded in 2005 by brothers Marc and Alexandre Bachelet, has quickly gained a reputation as one of Burgundy’s most exciting young domaines. They farm parcels with meticulous precision and vinify with a restrained touch, emphasizing terroir transparency. This wine comes from Clos de la Boutière, one of the top Premier Cru sites in Maranges, a walled vineyard with limestone-clay soils that give structure and depth to Pinot Noir.

Why get this wine?
Maranges has emerged as a source of some of the best values in Burgundy, especially at the Premier Cru level. In the Bachelet brothers’ hands, Clos de la Boutière produces a wine with real gravitas—combining concentration from the terroir with their hallmark finesse. For Burgundy lovers seeking Premier Cru character at a fraction of Côte de Nuits pricing, this bottle overdelivers.

What does this wine taste like?
Textured and expressive, with ripe cherry, blackberry, and red currant supported by spice, earth, and mineral notes. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and a long, vibrant finish that balances richness with freshness.

When should you drink this wine?
Appealing now after a short decant, especially with duck, game birds, or mushroom risotto, but it has the structure to age gracefully for 8–12 years.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 94
"The 2023 Maranges Clos de la Boutière 1er Cru comes from the estate's oldest vines, over 90 years old. It has a tightly wound yet finely delineated bouquet with blackberry, wild mint and a touch of potpourri. The medium-bodied palate features pliant tannins that lend a silky texture through to the fleshy finish. Lightly spiced with impressive length, this is another extremely well-crafted Maranges from Bachelet-Monnot." -Neal Martin
