An off-dry Muscat built for the moment when someone at the table says they don't really like dry wine — and they're right, sometimes you don't. Muscat is the grape that actually smells like grapes, and at a touch of sweetness with a good chill it's one of the friendliest bottles you can open, as happy with spicy takeout as it is with fruit and cheese at the end of a meal. Barkan is Israel's second largest winery, with its visitor center at Kibbutz Hulda about a half hour from both Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, and it farms over ten square kilometers of vines matched variety by variety to sites from the Golan Heights down to the desert around Mitzpe Ramon. That scale is the point here: it's what lets a wine this uncomplicated be this consistent. Serve it cold and don't overthink it.

Perfect Pairings

Szechuan mapo tofu, Thai green curry, spicy Korean fried chicken, salty blue cheese with honey, fresh peaches and apricots, or a lemon tart. Also good on its own, very cold, in the sun.

Tasting Profile

Unmistakably Muscat on the nose: orange blossom, grapey fruit, a bit of peach and lychee. Light-bodied and off-dry — sweet enough to notice, not a dessert wine — with soft acidity keeping it from feeling heavy. The finish is short, clean and floral. Best served well chilled.
