As the second wine of Château Brane-Cantenac—a Second Growth estate known for its refinement and deep gravel terroir—Baron de Brane benefits from the same meticulous vineyard work and cellar precision. The 2019 vintage was outstanding in Margaux: ripe, structured, and beautifully balanced.

This bottling offers immediate charm—red and black fruits, violets, and a touch of cedar—wrapped in silky tannins and framed by fresh acidity. It’s a more approachable version of the Grand Vin, but still unmistakably Margaux in its perfume and poise. There's enough grip and depth to age, but it’s drinking beautifully with a short decant right now.

Brane-Cantenac has some of the best terroir in the entire Medoc. Their largest parcel is on the famed "Plateau de Brane," where gravel can be up to 12 meters deep. This gravel is the key to the wine's exceptionally fine texture and mineral depth.

While Brane-Cantenac is a prime example of traditional, terroir-expressive Margaux, the grand vin requires about 15-20 years to hit its true drinking window. Baron de Brane is far more approachable in youth. It's still a very serious wine, but sees only 20% new oak, and is sourced from vats selected for their more open and supple personalities.

Quite simply, Baron de Brane is a second wine which puts many other grand vins from Margaux to shame.

"The 2019 Baron de Brane is the first to use a tiny amount of amphora in the elevage. It offers fine lift on the nose of almost airy red berry fruit, raspberry confit and rose petals; a light loamy scent emerges with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a fresh opening, and a little angular initially, but it coheres toward the middle, delivering tart red cherries, fine acidity and good delineation toward the pencil-lead-infused finish. This is a fine Deuxieme Vin from the estate that should drink well for a decade or more." -Neal Martin
