Barr-Eden Estate is the new name for the Love Over Gold partnership — winemakers Tim Howser, Joel Mattschoss, Pierre-Henri Morel, and Michael Twelftree working together at the crest of Mengler's Hill, one of the highest viticultural points in Australia where Eden Valley meets the Barossa. Dreams of Gold comes from younger plantings (1997 and 2013), hand-picked, fermented in two 4-ton fermenters with 18 days on skins, and aged in older French oak (puncheons and hogsheads) to keep the focus on fruit and site rather than wood. The result is high-altitude Shiraz at its most elegant: vibrant red fruit, eucalyptus and bay-leaf lift, fine supple tannins, and a medium-to-full body with a clean, mouthwatering finish.
