Bodegas Vinatigo is the engine of the Canary Islands wine revival, founded by Juan Jesus Mendez Siverio, a tireless champion of the islands' indigenous grapes. This white comes from Taganana, a dramatic, hard-to-farm corner of northern Tenerife where vines cling to coastal slopes above the Atlantic. The proximity to the ocean lends serious salinity and freshness, while the volcanic soils add a stony backbone. This is Canary white at its most site-specific and wild.

More about Bodegas Vinatigo

Juan Jesús Méndez founded Vinatigo in 1990 to recover almost-extinct Canary Island grape varieties. Working with Fernando Zamora from Rovira i Virgili University, he identified and catalogued 80+ indigenous varieties. Now all holdings are farmed organically or biodynamically; grapes are hand-harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts. It's ampelographic rescue and indigenous wine justice made tangible on Tenerife.
