Gilberto Boniperti combines traditional vineyard work with modern oenology in Alto Piemonte's Fara region—not Barolo, but just as serious. His Fara comes from a 1-acre vineyard planted in 2007, a blend of 70% Nebbiolo and 30% Vespolina, macerated for 3 weeks and aged in traditional larger barrels. The 2020 Fara Barton is terrific with dark and layered character. It's northern Italian terroir without pretense.
