Bruno Giacosa's standard Barolo from the legendary 1989 vintage — thirty-six years on, museum territory. Giacosa purchased Falletto in 1980 and from 1982 had estate fruit to bottle separately under the Falletto designation; this generic "Barolo" bottling (no cru, no Riserva) was a parallel cuvée drawn from his network of Serralunga and surrounding-commune contracted growers, which is how Bruno had built his reputation since the 1960s as the master selector of Piedmont. 1989 was a legendary classical vintage — long, slow ripening, structured wines that have aged magnificently. A piece of Giacosa history from the era when the producer-selector role still defined his house. A bottle to share with someone who knows what they're holding.

More about Bruno Giacosa

Bruno Giacosa passed away in 2018, but his legacy defines classical Barolo and Barbaresco. He was convinced that Nebbiolo doesn't need French barriques or modern tweaks—only time in large oak and genuine understanding of terroir. His golden palate earned him recognition as an 'icon of Piedmont' and a 'guardian of the traditional style,' and his wines are objects of desire for good reason. These are classical expressions of Nebbiolo made by someone who understood the grape's infinite complexity.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Treat it gently — roast capon with herbs, a simple risotto al Barolo, hand-cut tajarin with butter, or aged Toma. Save the heavy stews for younger wines; this one wants quiet company.

Tasting Profile

Tertiary and complete: dried cherry, leather, dried rose, tobacco leaf, forest floor, tar. Tannins long since resolved into silk, with the Giacosa hallmark of sweet inner fruit still echoing through a long, perfumed finish.
